Academy Square Lacers
Founding History
– Tuesday, February 27, 2007. An ad hoc committee of seven women, members of the International Old Lacers’ Guild, began the process of establishing a Lacers’ Guild within the greater Utah County area. This action was taken in order to involve more individuals in the art of Lace who otherwise would be unable to attend due to travel distances. The proposed name of Academy Square Lacers’ Guild was considered, with the first formal meeting scheduled for Saturday, the 24th of March 2007.
– Wednesday, March 8, 2007. The Director of the Academy Square, together with the Provo City Attorney, approved the proposed use of the name Academy Square Lacers’ Guild. Verbally, the Academy Director and Provo City stipulated that a disclaimer be added to Guild publications to ensure that the name does not imply city endorsement.
– Saturday, March 10, 2007. Public invitations were made to area Lace artists announcing that the Academy Square Lacers’ Guild begins meeting on the 24th of March 2007. All Lacers are welcomed to join while continuing membership with any other Guild.
– Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Seven Founding Members met to finalize the Academy Square Lacers’ Guild by-laws, policies and initial program for 2007. The group applies for International Old Lacers’, Inc. membership. They finalize a draft and publish the first edition of an Academy Square Lacers’ Guild booklet.
– Saturday, March 24, 2007. Of the original 15 lacers who joined by this date, 14 gathered for the first Academy Square Lacers’ Guild meeting. Of the 14 lacers, 4 joined the Academy Lacers this day.
